Sustainability and Environment Protection
Sustainability Strategy
The PWL Group has set itself important sustainability goals in ethical, social, ecological, and corporate terms. In doing so, we distinguish between three areas: Environment, Social, and Governance - also more commonly known as ESG. ESG criteria are firmly embedded in our corporate culture. They form the basis for corporate governance that is aligned to strong values. In everything we do, we are guided by our PWL mission statement, "Globally connected, locally committed“.
In addition to pure logistics and shipping-related services, our employees, our customers and suppliers, the environment, and society are what count most to us. We are convinced that we act fairly, reliably and ethically towards these stakeholders. Our business can only be conducted in accordance with fair business policies and within the framework of existing applicable local and international laws and regulations.
In terms of environmental protection and resource management, we focus on efficient use of energy (e.g., electricity and gas) and resources (e.g., paper, water and fuels) to minimize our environmental footprint and reduce CO2 emissions. Through continuous progress and innovation, we want to make our contribution to climate protection and help preserve natural resources. The preparation of an annual carbon footprint will help us to document this progress and define further measures to implement the targets.
We also work closely with partners and suppliers in our supply chain to promote sustainable practices. We set clear requirements regarding environmental protection and social standards and promote compliance with these requirements. PWL Group's services are continuously reviewed to see how we can help our customers make more sustainable choices. This starts with tracking solutions for individual transports and extends to transparency on emitted CO2 emissions.
For us, living sustainability is an investment in our own future viability and ensures our business resilience. Our sustainability strategy is therefore an integral part of our corporate strategy, corporate culture and branding. It is based on continuous improvement and transparent communication. We are committed to disclosing our progress toward a sustainable future and regularly reporting on our sustainability performance.
Climate Strategy
At PWL, we are committed to climate neutrality as a core goal of our climate strategy. We recognize the urgency of climate change and are committed to doing our part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions globally. Through targeted measures, we aim to minimize our carbon footprint to the maximum extent possible and make the unavoidable emissions of our business activities climate neutral through offsetting.
Our first step on the road to climate neutrality is to consistently reduce our emissions. We will analyze all aspects of our business operations and take measures to optimize energy consumption, integrate energy-efficient technologies, use renewable energies, promote resource efficiency and implement sustainable practices throughout the supply chain. By continuously improving our processes and using modern technologies, we will reduce our CO2 emissions and minimize our climate impact.
Despite our efforts to reduce emissions, it is likely that some CO2 emissions will remain unavoidable. To achieve climate neutrality, we aim to offset these remaining emissions through high-quality compensation measures. Offset projects are carefully screened to ensure they meet strict environmental standards and have positive social and environmental benefits.
Our goal is to achieve complete climate neutrality for the PWL Group starting in 2025. This means that we will fully offset our remaining emissions and thus achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions. We will publish regular progress reports via our annual sustainability report to keep our employees, customers, partners, and the public informed about our efforts to achieve climate neutrality. Transparency and accountability are key principles for us on the path to a more sustainable future.
